Friends playing together
Happy Thanksgiving, CommuniKids DC families! We hope you enjoy these photos of your children playing together. You can see what good friends we all are, and how fantastically we play together.
Here are the Libelulas exploring the sensation of touch and showing great teamwork along the way.

NAEYC Prize
One of the best parts of going to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) conference is the chance to win super prizes. We are a lucky school -- last year we won a carpet, and this year we won a set of lovely wooden rainbow cars. Here are some of the Mariposas -- Sebastian M., Alvaro, and Zuri -- trying them out!

Hello CommuniKids DC families!
As you may know, the unit we are working on right now is "My Body." We are learning all sorts of interesting things about the way we work! Look around for artwork related to this theme the next time you come in. Noses, brains, and hands lurk around every corner . . .
Which reminds me: Halloween is coming, and we will celebrate here at CommuniKids DC by going on a very exciting trick-or-treating trip to our local businesses. Guapos, TD Bank, and Payless Shoe Source, just to name a few, will be welcoming our scary ghosts and wicked witches and fantastic superheroes on their trick-or-treat rounds. If you'd like to join us, please let your teacher know. We've love to have you!
One of the elements of the "My Body" curriculum is taste. The Abejas have been tasting things and seeing what they like.
Check out our happy parents on Back to School night reading welcome messages from their Libelulas! The children enjoyed reading the parents' messages back to them later in the week.

Our Maravillas (aftercare program) are working on virtues this year, and they are currently working on a unit about "humility." Maestra Susanna chose the tree as a metaphor for humility, and the children came up with these qualities themselves.
"The Tree":
"The tree is patient and silent as it works" -- Nathan
"It's a very faithful friend" -- Terissa
"If I take care of it, it will take care of me" -- Eben
"The tiny little parts do great big work" -- Kyle
"They make air for me to breathe!" -- Sofia
"The leaves make the tree grow really big" -- Eben
How beautifully the tree embodies the qualities of humility!

Thank you to all the parents who came out for Back to School Night this past Tuesday. It was a rousing success. We appreciate your taking the time out of your busy lives to come and learn more about your child's school and what we are learning.
